Space weather is a brunch of space science focused on the time varying conditions within the Solar System, including the solar wind, emphasizing the space surrounding the Earth, including conditions in the magnetosphere, ionosphere and thermosphere. The Sun, the prime source of space weather, which has tremendous influence on Earth’s space environment, releases vast amounts of energy in the form of electro- magnetic and particle radiation that can damage or destroy satellite, navigation, communication, and power distribution systems, and injure or kill astronauts. The science of space weather and space environment is concerned with fundamental research and practical applications, including the relationship between the Sun and Earth and impacts on our technological society.
